ANDREW ROHLOFF AND OWEN THOMAS GAME BALL

UPSTATE LAXFEST

In memory of Andrew Rohloff and Owen Thomas, who were members of Upstate FCA Lacrosse, we will be awarding a special game ball to one player from each team at the end of every game. These players will be chosen by the opposing team’s coach, and will be awarded for skill, sportsmanship, or effort, which were qualities exemplified by Andrew and Owen.

These game balls are branded with the logos above. These logos are the initials, and numbers, of Andrew and Owen. Although they are no longer with us, their memories carry on.

ANDREW ROHLOFF

Andrew was a faithful, active, well-liked and much-loved young athlete who was strong in his love for his Savior. Andrew went to be with the Lord on October 10, 2015. Andrew was a standout in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ lacrosse program, where, for 11 months of the year, athletes and coaches come together for their love of lacrosse—and their love of God.

“I had the honor of coaching Andrew Rohloff on the 2021/2022 FCA team,” said Scott Barnard, Andrew’s FCA Lacrosse Coach. “His passion for God, our FCA team and the game of lacrosse shined with each interaction. Andrew had a smile that lit up our team and the desire to always be on the field competing. His determination, character and attitude made him a player and teammate FCA was proud to have and future players strive to be.”

OWEN THOMAS

Owen Thomas, a Brighton, NY native, played in the program for three years prior to his passing in 2017. The loss of Owen has had a deep impact on the lives of the FCA athletes and coaches, but his joyful demeanor and passion for life will be remembered always.

“Prior to Owen’s death, he had shared with us that some of his favorite memories were our summer lacrosse travels. He loved being with our family – we often camped out at fields – and spending breakfast, lunch and dinner with his friends as well. We believed that FCA offered Owen an infrastructure to learn about his faith, his family, and the value of lasting friendships. We were moved beyond words the night of the Owen’s wake when his FCA friends gathered to pay their respects as a team, and they created a huddle around us and our son Michael, also a former FCA player. We want nothing more than for other families to be able to share in the joy FCA brought to us, and the comfort the players, families and staff offered during our darkest hours. Faith is believing what you can’t see. We had a window to see it in the healing we felt during the huddle.”  - Catherine Cerulli (Owen’s mom)
